Vor vielen Jahren, als ich noch ganz klein war, besaß meine Mutter drei Ketten, die ihr sehr ans Herz gewachsen waren. Eine davon war eine Kette mit Zuchtperlen. Ich war bereits damals von Perlen aller Art fasziniert aber auch tollpatschig. So zerriss ich diese Kette in mehrere Teile. Etwa zwanzig Jahre später, zum fünzigsten Geburtstag meiner Mutter, nahm ich die Perlen, welche übrig geblieben waren, und ging zu einem Juwelier. Er fertigte eine neue Kette an. Sie bestand aus den restlichen Kulturperlen, Blutsteinperlen und Messing-Rondellen mit Kristallsteinen. Meine Mutter mochte diese Kette nicht besonders, weil sie auf Draht gefädelt war und steif um den Hals lag. Dreißig Jahre vergingen, bis mir die Kette zufällig, als ich zu Besuch bei meiner Mutter war, in die Hände fiel. Ich beschloss, die Kette neu anzufertigen.
Beim Knoten der Perlen wurde mir klar, warum der Juwelier die Perlen auf Draht aufgezogen hatte. Die Löcher der Kulturperlen sind sehr eng und klein. Die Löcher der Blutsteinperlen sind dagegen größer. Daher wurde das Knoten eine Herausforderung für mich. Die restaurierte Perlenkette ist nun kürzer und hat einen Magnet-Verschluss. Ich denke, meine liebe Mutter wird sie in Zukunft gerne tragen.
Many years ago, when I was very young, my mother had three necklaces that she loved very much. One of them was a necklace with cultured pearls. At that time I was fascinated by pearls of all kinds, but I also was clumsy. So I broke this pearl-necklace into several parts. About twenty years later, on my mother's fiftieth birthday, I took the pearls that were left and went to a jewelry store.The jeweler made a new necklace. It consisted of the left over culture pearls, blood stone pearls and brass rondelles with crystal stones. My mother didn't like this necklace, because it was threaded on wire and stiff around her neck.Thirty years passed. When I visited my mother, the chain accidentally fell into my hands.I decided to make the necklace new.
When I knotted the pearls, I realized why the jeweler had used wire for the necklace. The holes in the culture pearls are very narrow and small. The holes in the blood stone beads are larger. So the knot became a challenge for me. Now the restored pearl necklace is shorter and has a magnetic clasp. I think my dear mother will be happy to wear it in the future.
